What BERRISolver collects, why, and how long we keep it. In short: your email address for the license key, a little activation data to enforce the license, and bug reports only when you send them.
Who we are
This website, the BERRISolver app and its license server are run by BERRISolver, based in Sweden. Questions about this policy go to the address at the bottom of the page.
What stays on your computer
The solver runs on your own computer. Your spots, ranges, saved solves and trainer results stay there. None of them are sent to us unless you attach the spot settings to a report, and even then the ranges are left out.
Your email address
When you request a trial key we store your email address with the license record. We use it to send the key and the download link, to resend the key when you ask, and to reach you about your license. We do not send newsletters and we do not share the address for marketing.
When you buy a license we store the address you gave at checkout the same way. We use it to send the key, to send renewal and payment notices, and to send the sign-in codes for the account page.
Billing data
Payments for full licenses are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details and, if you enter them, your name and billing address; the card details never reach us. With the license record we store these billing identifiers:
- the Stripe customer id and subscription id
- the price you subscribed at
- the subscription status, the end of the current period and the end of the last paid period
- whether a refund or a payment dispute has been recorded against the license
Activation data
The app contacts the license server when you activate it and now and then while it runs, so we can enforce the three-computer limit and notice shared keys. We store a hash of the IP address, not the address itself. Each contact records:
- your license id
- a hash of your Windows installation id (a one-way value, not the id itself)
- your computer's name as Windows reports it
- the app version and the Windows version
- a hashed IP address and the country it resolves to
- the time
Bug and crash reports
The app sends a report only when you choose Report a problem, or when you turn on automatic crash reports in Settings. Automatic reports are off unless you switch them on.
A report contains your description, the email address you give for a reply, the app version, the Windows version, and your license id and installation hash if the app is activated. With Include diagnostics ticked it also contains an excerpt of the app log, the settings of the spot you were working on, and the crash details. Ranges are not included.
Reports go to our support inbox. We use them to fix the problem and to reply to you.
The website
This site uses the Meta Pixel to measure our ads. It sets two cookies in your browser, _fbp and _fbc, and tells Meta which pages you visited, when you started a trial and when you bought a license. Our license server sends Meta the same two events. With them it sends hashed copies of your email address and license id, your IP address, your browser's identifier, the two cookie values and the page you were on, and for a purchase the amount paid, the Stripe subscription and price ids, and hashed copies of your name and the city, region, postal code and country of your billing address, so Meta can match the event to a Meta account. To send the purchase event after checkout, the license server stores your IP address, browser identifier, the two cookie values and the page you bought from with your Stripe checkout session and subscription. Meta handles that data under its own privacy policy. Your theme choice, light or dark, is kept in your browser's local storage and never leaves your computer.
Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs with IP addresses for a short time to run the service and stop abuse.
When you sign in on the account page, a sign-in token is kept in your browser's local storage for up to 30 days, or until you sign out. The checkout and billing portal pages are hosted by Stripe under Stripe's own privacy policy.
When the trial form shows a bot check from Cloudflare Turnstile, Cloudflare processes signals from your browser to tell people from bots, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. Without the check, nothing on the site talks to Cloudflare.
Who processes the data
We use these services to run BERRISolver. Each one only gets the data it needs for its job.
- Google Cloud Firebase, in the europe-west1 region (Belgium): the license server, its activity log and the database that holds reports.
- SendGrid: sends the license key email and other mail from us.
- Stripe: processes payments for full licenses and hosts the checkout and the billing portal.
- GitHub: hosts the installer and the update files the app downloads.
- Vercel: hosts this website.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: the optional bot check on the trial form, when it is enabled.
- Meta: the Meta Pixel on this site and the two conversion events the license server sends it, used to measure our ads.
How long we keep it
- Activity events and reports: 180 days, then deleted automatically.
- Sign-in codes: valid for 15 minutes and deleted within a day.
- License records, including your email address, the billing identifiers and the activation data: as long as the license exists.
- Deletion on request: email us and we delete your license record and everything tied to it.
Your rights
We process this data to provide the license you asked for and to protect the service from abuse. Under the GDPR that rests on the contract with you and on our legitimate interest.
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email the address below and we answer within a month. If you are in the EU or the EEA you can also complain to your data protection authority. In Sweden that is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top.
